Young gi Cho, also known as YGTattoos, hails from Seoul, Korea, and is 32 years old. With a rich background in classical piano and composition, his transition to tattoo artistry was an unexpected but fulfilling turn. After years of studying music and a brief diversion into a university education and military service, Young gi felt a renewed passion for the arts. Guided by his older brother, a tattoo artist, he embarked on a tattoo apprenticeship, despite lacking formal drawing training.
“At first, it was challenging since I didn’t have a background in drawing,” YG recalls. “But my brother encouraged me that it was possible, and that gave me the confidence to pursue it. I spent three years learning the craft, focusing on drawing and observing the work of great artists. It was a constant process of trial and error, but I fell in love with tattooing.”

While tattooing wasn’t an easy transition, YG’s passion for creating art never waned. “Learning the technical skills of tattooing was difficult at first, but I was determined,” he says. “I focused on black and gray realism, a style that resonated with me the most. One of the biggest challenges YG faces is mastering the single-needle technique. “It’s a delicate process—if the needle goes too deep, the ink spreads, and if it’s too shallow, it fades,” he explains. “Single-needle work requires patience and precision, as excessive pressure can damage the skin. I’m constantly practicing and studying to improve this skill.”
The Most Satisfying Moment: Client Happiness
For YG, the most satisfying part of tattooing is not just completing the piece but seeing the client’s joy when the tattoo is finished. “Tattooing is a collaboration, and when I see my client happy with the result, it makes everything worth it. I know that this piece will stay with them for life,” he reflects.
