D\u00e8s ses premiers souvenirs, Kate \u00e9tait ins\u00e9parable de ses crayons de couleur. Qu'il s'agisse d'un cahier, d'une serviette de table ou m\u00eame d'un bureau de classe, toute surface \u00e9tait propice \u00e0 son \u00e9nergie cr\u00e9atrice.

Je pensais que je d\u00e9corais le bureau\u201d, dit-elle en riant. \u201cMon professeur n'\u00e9tait pas d'accord.

Il est int\u00e9ressant de noter que Kate a \u00e9t\u00e9 la premi\u00e8re de sa famille \u00e0 entrer dans le monde de l'art. \u201cPersonne autour de moi n'\u00e9tait artiste - pas de musique, pas de danse, rien\u201d, explique-t-elle. \u201cJe me suis toujours sentie \u00e0 part.\u201d

\u201cUn jour, pendant ma pause d\u00e9jeuner, je suis entr\u00e9e dans un studio de tatouage voisin que j'avais trouv\u00e9 sur Internet\u201d, raconte-t-elle. \u201cLe propri\u00e9taire a vu mes croquis et m'a propos\u00e9 de me former sur place.\u201d<\/p>

Les d\u00e9buts de Kate dans le tatouage n'ont pas \u00e9t\u00e9 faciles. Bien qu'elle soit une illustratrice talentueuse, la transposition de ses comp\u00e9tences sur la peau n'a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 facile.<\/p>

\u201cMes lignes n'\u00e9taient pas nettes, mes couleurs manquaient de saturation et parfois les choses ne se connectaient pas\u201d, se souvient-elle. \u201cJ'\u00e9tais frustr\u00e9e, mais je ne voulais pas abandonner.\u201d<\/p>

Au lieu de cela, elle a continu\u00e9 \u00e0 travailler en proposant des prix plus bas au d\u00e9but, car elle estimait que son travail ne justifiait pas encore un tarif plein. Lorsqu'on lui demande de d\u00e9crire son style, Kate r\u00e9pond sans h\u00e9siter : \u201cJe suis une m\u00e9langeuse\u201d.\u201d<\/p>

Elle m\u00e9lange des \u00e9l\u00e9ments de tous les genres de tatouage - polyn\u00e9sien, japonais, traditionnel - et y ajoute des couches de graffitis, d'autocollants et de couleurs vives. Son approche caract\u00e9ristique fait de chaque tatouage un moment de narration, en particulier lorsqu'il s'agit d'animaux de compagnie.<\/p>

Elle rassemble des r\u00e9f\u00e9rences, cr\u00e9e des collages num\u00e9riques et laisse ensuite la magie op\u00e9rer. \u201cJe mets de la musique et je dessine. Je ne peux pas tout expliquer.
