Cuando Laz cumpli\u00f3 18 a\u00f1os, empez\u00f3 a buscar un puesto de aprendiz en Sydney, donde viv\u00eda entonces. Tras ser rechazado en varias ocasiones, finalmente tuvo su oportunidad a los 20 a\u00f1os. Una tienda de tatuajes cercana a su casa le ofreci\u00f3 un puesto de aprendiz despu\u00e9s de que pasara suficiente tiempo en la tienda, conociendo a los artistas.
